Alternative to Access that works with PHP?

I was using Microsoft Access before as a front end and connecting it to database(i.e. MySQL via ODBC). However, I was wondering, are there any Open Source Alternatives, similar to Microsoft Access to creating interfaces that connect with PHP? This would be for POS integration. Thanks for your help.

Sure: PostgreSQL (once they get their native Windows port going), MySQL, ....

I'm just wondering why you needed to use MSExcess as an interface to MySQL.

That's a good question. I use Access(or Excess if you prefer the name!) for their form controls and Wizards(but, mainly for their forms). What I mean by this, is that there is a certain way I want the screens to look to the users and Access is the only way I know of doing it (besides Visual Basic and Visual C++, which are expensive). So, if there is an Open Source thing that I can draw forms onto, that is what I am looking for.

What I imply with forms, I mean that I want certain buttons, text controls and such to be on the screen in a WYSIWYG way. With Access for Example, you can just Click on a Text Box and drag it where I want it exactly on the Form and that is exactly what it would like on screen.

Access is probably your best bet for what you're doing unless you want it web enabled then use html and php.

What he's doing is using access the way we use php to write a front end for his database.

I've done this a couple of times but it's not very efficient.

MSDE is an equivalent, basically a MS SQL engine, runs just like MS SQL, point n click WYSISYG and is free. Just download at Microsoft for free.

However, if you want to really use a db that works, try something other than MS, perhaps try MYSQL or PostgreSQL.
