Mysql In over my head

Ok i'm in over my head with a website I'm trying to create and I'm hoping I can get some help. I am looking to build a fiction archive for writers to be able to have access to and post their work. Space and bandwidth aren't a problem however I know I will need to utilize mysql but will one work or will I need many? Anyone who has any info on setting up a writers archive or mysql info please help!

also anyone familiar with eprints or other achiveing scripts please let me know your opinions as I have not decided for sure which one to utilize.

I think you mean, "How many databases do I need?". The answer is: only one. However, you can create as many tables as you like in that database. MySQL does allow you to create more than one DB, of course, but I can't think of a reason for having more than one for a particular project, unless you're dealing with sensitive info such as addresses or credit details.

I know nothing about archiving scripts, I'm afraid.

I'm not doing any thing with credit cards and such mostly it's just .html or .doc file which need to be stored and available for searching. The site itself will require user log in but that is about the extent of security. Many hosting companies offer multiple mysqls and from what I was reading I was thinking I need one mysql for each catigory of story. Being that there will be many catigories I was starting to freat that I would need several dozen databases when my hosting only supplied one. Thanks for your help and if you know of any useful documentaion please point me the right direction.

I recommend you take a look at some PHP content management things like PHP-Nuke. Hell even a forum like this one would work, and it takes about 5 minutes to set up 🙂

All will require you to have a server with PHP and MySql (or other database) installed.
