resize and write text to image help

IS there a way to take an image upload and resize it and write text accross it at the same time. I have script that will resize an image and one that will write text on an image upon output but I need some help on combining the 2 if possible.

What does the code look like so far? (resizing an image is a one-liner with imagecopyresized or imagecopyresampled) and what is going wrong with it?
