Converting seconds to minutes:seconds

I'm trying to create a timer for when a user enters a page it is timestamped and then when they hit a submit there is another timestamp. Then I simply subtract the two figures... and have a value of the duration/timer.

Now, I am able to get the total number of seconds using time()... but I need to convert it to say... "You finished in X minutes and Y seconds."

Any help would be appreciated.

If you have X secs, then X/60 is the numbers of hours, but if you do this directly you will get fractions of hours, which isn't what you want.

To get hours and seconds, do the following:

// $totalsecs has been defined (from the timer, or whatever ...)
$hours = floor($totalsecs/60);
$secs = $totalsecs - $hours*60;

Another option to get the seconds is to use the modulus, which returns just the remainder

$secs = $totalsecs%60;
