Okay, so I can't even find php.ini

I'm running php/apache on OSX 10.2. phpinfo tells me that my php.ini file is in /usr/lib, but it is not there. I did a find and apparently it isn't anywhere.

Is php.ini somehow optional, so I would actually have to create it, but otherwise php runs without? This is just a local setup for learning purposes.

I usually google first then ask questions later. Should have done that this time as well.

Apparently it doesn't exist until I make it.

Is there a good "default" .ini file available anywhere?

One question out of curiosity: Where does one set the location of the php.ini file. My installation has it in /usr/lib, others I've seen have it in /etc. I don't see anything in the httpd.conf file that points to that, so ...

look for php.ini-dist or .ini-reccomended. most prefer ini-dist but ini-reccomended is better for performance and security, albeit with somethings disabled.

Are there no installation instructions that come with this version? A simple trip to the PHP site (http://www.php.net) and a search for "mac" brings me here. Have a look at the comment by fukuman (when I posted this it was right at the bottom of the page). He suggests going to Server Logistics. If you look on the right it mentions free software. Take a look there. I'm sure there'll be some advice around there.

Grazi for the link. I wasn't moaning, but actually trying to be funny, as I found my answer shortly after posting the question. Obviously failed.

The php comes installed already in the OS. The apache installation doesn't have php running by default, so I figured out how to fix that. The php.ini was no big deal for what I have been doing, but needed it for some new things I'm working on with a friend.

Nah, was probably me. I really shouldn't be posting at half one in the morning when I have to be at work for 9am. :rolleyes:

TBH, I don't own a Mac. I've never used a Mac for anything (although I think I played Sims on one once). I just got those links from searching on google.

If you have a php.ini, why not just edit that?

There wasn't a php.ini at all. I followed the link and created one so all is well. It turns out, all I really needed was to define the include_path, and I could have done that in httpd.conf. Oh well, live and learn.
