making a message board

ok.

i am trying to build a message board on my site. and i'm using phpmyadmin and dreamweaver. i have got some of the basics down but i would like to have a "reply" function and a threaded list. i've looked at a lot of scripts and different bb sites and i just can't figure it out. i'm also having trouble with the email function.
basically, my site looks like a guestbook right now.

any kind of help would be great. or if i need to explain it more, i will.

you have to write out a structure for your message board. (im currently also coding a BB without looking at a piece of BB code before it is quite challenging but im going at it good) The basic structure of my BB for threads and posts are

Thread TABLE holds

threadstarter
title
blah blah
postids (important)

the postids hold all the IDs of the posts in the thread for example the postids of THread 1 are

1,2,3,4,5,6,7

so the thread displays posts 1 2 3 4 5 6 7! thats the basic idea for a structure might not be the best way but thats the way im doing it 🙂 but be careful maybe there is a better way

now for posting something you make a html page with the forms and stuff. then a php file that gets the variables from the forms and then sticks them into the posts table but remember you also must stick the ID NUMBER into the POSTIDS in thread table !
