images, to include or not to include.

I've got a PHP script on my webserver that tries to open an image that is passed to it, and if it can't it pulls a standard '404' image.

I've just been wondering recently, would it be better to include it or to fopen it, fread it and print it.

What's your opinion on this, guys?
