Sports Rating System

Hello,

I was curious about converting my Sports Rating System from VB to PHP.

It's a rather simple, but yet complex system and I wasn't sure how easy it would be to implement it into PHP.

It's basically an adjusted winning percentage formula.

My input looks like: scores input

Also, with VB I have to use another input file, listing of the teams: teams input.

Basically, I'd like to set the PHP to run at my command, like going to an admin page, selecting the inputs and then having it calculate and export them something like: output

Where a visitor can click on a team name in the ratings and it take them to their schedule.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

The problem I'm having is importing the information.

I can handle the exporting of all of it.

I just need help importing the information, then figuring out how to calculate it all.

The scores don't matter, only if a team won or lost matters.

Sorry, was just letting possible helpers (unlike yourself) understand what I'm having trouble with.

just spent maybe 5 minutes browsing thru the FAQ and guidelines, don't see anything about bumping except maybe a couple posts that say things like "Personally, I hate people who just say 'bump' solely to get their post back to the top of the list." which doesn't really explain anything.😕 I had thought that was a request to have the thread moved to a different forum or something, but now I don't really know.

Anyway feel free to email me about the sports thing, I'd be interested in helping (even though I'm a USC fan :mad: ).

Please do not "bump" your posts. For the uninitiated, a "bump" is a simple post that says "bump" in the subject or body, and doesn't contribute any additional value to the thread. It is done for the sole purpose of making the thread show up at the top of the forum list. If your thread has significant content, someone will find it with a search. You do NOT need to bump it up to the top to force people to read it over and over. It is quite irritating to open a thread that has new posts added only to find out that it has been bumped and has no new important info.

Funny though that my new post DID contact new information, hmm.

Hmm, well I can see how that might be bad netiquette but the rationale as to why it's bad written there doesn't make that much sense. The reason someone bumps is they're asking for help, as most of the initiators of threads are.

"You do NOT need to bump it up to the top to force people to read it over and over" -- well, yes you do if you're not getting the help you need.

"It is quite irritating to open a thread that has new posts added only to find out that it has been bumped and has no new important info." -- I don't find it irritating that someone has a problem they need help with? Particularly in a Newbies forum, geez.

I think a more true rationale against bumping is "if the people who hang out here were willing/able to answer your question, they would have done so the first time."

Anyway, this whole discussion should no longer be in this forum I suppose.

p.s. This is NOT an attempt to move this thread to the Top. 🙂
