system functions aren't working on my server and i don't know how to enable them. safemode is off so i dont know what is stopping them from working.

this is what the phpinfo shows:

safe_mode: Off | Off
safe_mode_exec_dir: no value | no value
safe_mode_gid: Off | Off
safe_mode_include_dir: no value | no value

php 4.3.3
apache 1.3.9
linux redhad 9

anyone have any ideas?

Does apache have permissions to carry out the commands you are asking it to?
