installing mySQL & PHP

Hi, I’m totally new to this, so please forgive my ignorance.
Currently, I have windows 2000 server, and some software running on asp and using access database on my sever.
I saw this software I really want to buy, but the requirement is
• PHP 4.1.2 or higher with Zend Optimizer installed
• Linux or Windows webserver (Windows IIS Servers are not compatible with webDate)
• MySQL database
My questions are
-If I install php and mysql, is it going to conflict with the software I have running on my sever right now?
-If not, which php which I download? And which mySQL should I download? There are so many of them and I am confused 😕
-And, do you always have to install apache in order for php to work?

No, Apache is unneeded for PHP to work, but you need a server, like the one you have running. Get PHP 4.3.4 and the latest stable versions of Apache and MySQL...it's also a good idea to get some external libraries, like gd, bzip2, and PCRE. There is also a good bundle available from www.firepages.com.au

The software spec says it's not compatible with IIS, but you are running asp pages that require IIS.

Sounds like "either-or" to me.
