Salutations to the Forum,

This thread is EXPERIMENTAL. The behaviour of this thread, the title of this thread, the contents of this thread, and this thread's very existence may change without notice in future (in fact I hope it will. Except for the last bit. Can't edit something if it's deleted).

The format is pretty simple. This thread contains links to other threads that discuss the problem in the title, offering solutions, references and so on. These separate threads used to be posts in one thread, but that thread ended up pretty big; and since URLs here can't use page-local anchors, the saving that would have come from using those wasn't available either. So each question has now been split into its own thread, accessible via this index.

These threads are open, so feel free to post if you think there's anything missing, other problems, details I've forgotten, further references, suggestions about style and layout (I'm terrible at style), or mistakes I've made. I'll go through now and then and combine those suggestions (with recognition) so that over time with community input this thread will become an invaluable resource for people looking for help.

If you want to write something similar - a survey of solutions to a particular common problem (with citations and whatnot), feel free to do so, post it, and PM me with the link. I'll check it out and see about adding a link to it here. If it's particularly long and detailed or specialised, of course, it would be better as a contributed article (the forum search engine doesn't cover articles, but I suspect they get higher traffic).

congrats weedpacket on communicating good behaviour on using a forum. kinda goes along the lines rtfm. Remember for newbies that if you are encountering a problem it is highly likely that it has been seen before. Just like code or a program, if you have thought of it, hundreds before you have aswell.

Just answered three all the same:

"How can I look at E-Mails and do......?"

Again - recommendations say Search forum, RTFM, STFW - yet how many just click "New Thread" ??

Would be REAL nice if you could create an intermediary page for people so that after they click on "New Thread", it gives them links to the search thing and maybe an actual FAQ. Would be sweet...

being a noob myself, how about.....

Whenever a post goes to resolved, why not copy and paste the question and answer into this very topic and have a list.........

Thus the question and it's answer gets saved for future reference......

Hello,

I have a very strange problem with a script. Essentially when you call the image:

mod_rewrite enabled

Without mod_rewrite

Try and right click the image... then print image. You can just select "microsoft document viewer".

Now it will not print, and you are unable to close IE.

But if you call any image directly from the image folder...

It will print.

Does anyone have any previous experience with this? Could it be the headers or something to do with the fact the image is saved with a dynamic name, with the origonal name stored in the DB until you save... so as to stop duplicate images being uploaded?

Anyone have any ideas?

Just a quick coding tip for any new people

If your writing a function that relys on a return value being 2 different results, you dont need to specify the else condition.

example:


function my_function($var) {

 if($var == 2) {

      return true;

  } else {

      return false;

}

Could be reduced to


function my_function($var) {

 if($var == 2) {

     return true;

}

 return false;

}

Or even more reduction


function my_function($var) {

if($var == 2) return true;

 return false;

}

Or even more reduction


function my_function($var) {

   ($var == 2) ? return true : return false;

}

Hey weedpacket,
first thanks for all your input saved me quite a bit. There have been issues I have ran into that i couldn't find here or basically anywhere. Through loss of hair many aggravating nights and coffee i have found solutions that i would like to save other people the loss of hair and etc. Can i post or send you?
