removing file name from URL in browser

I was wondering what's the easiest way to remov the file name from a URL in your browser bar.

ie:
Turning www.phpbuilder.com./file.php?order=1

If the extension is always php,
I would find the string position (strpos) of .php(last p) and the slash before the filename. The diff of characters in between will give me the filename to extract.

Can this be of any help ?

If $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] equals file.php?order=1 use a header redirect to /?order=1 or something like that 🙂

Ahh yes, I guess that might, I have never used 'REQUEST_URI' before and I wasn't thinking properly so I never thought of that, I guess it might return something like '/dir/file.php' which you would then need to use parse_url on.

I have never used 'REQUEST_URI' before cause for some reason I get no value from it on my desktop which is what I do all my coding on..

And I never knew about that VBCode you just used, [ man ] why was I not informed about it? :p

The best and easiest way of doing this is to have the script be the directory index, something like index.php. That way you can point to the dir that the script is in and put the args right after that. ...dir/?abc=123 That way index.php isn't needed because it's the directory index.

Yea, but it seems that he already has it like that, he just wanted a way to make 'dir/index.php?abc=123' to 'dir/?abc=123' if the user had it like that for some reason.. I think..
