[Resolved] [Resolved] the million dollar question (cobalt/windows/linux)

i have a raq4.

its shafted.

the hard drive is fine, and is not the problem.

id like to be able to take a copy of the data that is on the home partition on that disk. i believe cobalt raqs software raid by default.

so the question is, can i plug my cobalt hd into either a redhat 8.0 machine, or a windows 2k/nt4 machine and read the data using a highly helpful tool that you will point me in the right direction of?

Obvious question: How did you get data onto the /home partition in the first place? Is that process reversable?

What filesystem were you using? ext2?

Send the drive to me along with a check for $1,000,000 US and, once the check clears, I'll get the data off. I'll even accept half up front and half when the data is delivered.

i got data on home because once upon a time, the disk was bootable - but someone thought itd be clever to remove a folder or two. yknow, like /usr/ and /var/.

rebuilt the cobalt box in the end. thanks for the help tho. :rolleyes:

Thanks, yourself. "Sod" is better than some words you probably know. If the disk was no longer bootable, I'd say they got more than just /usr and /var.

You never answered my post, and what I say to ahundiak is, well, not necessarily aimed at you... though granted, I guess, it's your thread...whether or not you decide to give any information to your would be helpers is a decision you have to make.

It seems likely that your filesystem was ext2 ... I spent some time on the www looking for that info, in order to give assistance, but you never confirmed/denied that, so how could I tell you anything?

Assuming it was ext2, you could have mounted it on most any Linux box, and I think even FBSD5.x ...

true, good point. raq4s are all ext2. the 'bunch of sarcastic sods' was typed with a smile on my face - guess thats where tone of voice would have come in handy... lol (or a well placed smiley or two)
