SO Clueless HELP!

Hi guys,

I really really would like to learn and use PHP but I am so clueless about it. Can anybody show me the way? What are the files I need to download and install? how do i make it run? how will i know the installation is successful?

I know that several other have other opinions, but I would start with a packaged bundle that has php,mysql, and apache all wrapped up into one. Try using easyPHP, it can be found at http://www.easyphp.org

Once you get it downloaded (about 10 megs) and getting it up and running, try searching google for php tutorials, there are literally thousands of them out there. Dont let it overwhelm you!! That should get you started!!!🆒

I tried downloading Easy PHP but its all in different languages!

yes, unfotunately, it comes out of canada, and is in french, but the end result is what you will be needing, the php, mysql, and apache will all be in english, just the install is in french.

I think a packaged bundle would be robbing yourself of the install experience. They all have their advantages to being installed seperately, and when you get to a place where you want complete control over what's going in, you'll be wishing you had learned how to do them each seperatly. Now, if all you want is a quick install solution so you can start playing with scripts, then the packaged bundles are for you.

Ive tried numerous times installing seperately but they must dis like me or something.

Well, that's what we're here for. When you get stuck, come back here, and ask the question for the part you're stuck at. Trust me, after you do it a couple times, you'll be able to do it with youre eyes closed.

So basically I should just strat with Apache and try and install everything from there on?

Also, PHPMYADMIN would really help, can u get that when installing mysql/php?

Yep, that's the start. MySQL is independent of Apache/PHP, but i you're doing this on a Linux/BSD system, you should have it installed before doing PHP.
And you can get phpMyAdmin off of Sourceforge.net

Im on a Windows System ... Apache 1 or 2? Ive heard 1 is supposed to be better some how.

Uhmm....dirpath? Probably just short for directory path. Like C:\this\folder

So Dirpath to my web folder would be ...

C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs

download the english language files and replace the original ones with those. Change the language in the dropdown menu of the main window to english and youre all set...
