MOD_Rewrite on a subdom challenge

Is it possible to have:

http://testvar.domain.com/

point to:

http://www.domain.com/script.php?var=testvar

using MOD_Rewrite, so that I can have multiple "fake" subdomains?

Anybody know the code for this? I have looked in the URL rewrite guide by Endershall but to no avail.

It should be possible, take a look to http://ffffff.milov.nl/ (subdomain - is background color in rgb)

Can you direct me to the code for this work? (I.E. the .htaccess command used to push the ffffff into a var...)
