Regular Expression problem with "[" inside []

Hi, can someone tell me how I can have a [ and a ] inide a []. Here is what I have:

eregi("href=\"[A-Za-z0-9:._/()?=&$% -]*.gif", $s, $temp)

I want to add [ and ]. However if I do:

eregi("href=\"[ [ ]A-Za-z0-9:._/()?=&$% -]*.gif", $s, $temp)

it doesnt work. Any suggestions?

If memory serves (and the manual backs me up), there is no real need to escape square brackets:

/[][A-Za-z0-9:._/()?=&$%-]*\.gif/

Oh, hang on, you're using POSIX expressions. Dunno what the conventions are there. Let's find that man page...

man regex -S 7
To include a literal ]' in the list, make it the first character (following a possible^'). With the exception of these and some combinations using [' (see next paragraphs), all other special characters, including\', lose their special significance within a bracket expression.

The "next paragraphs" basically say that if [ is followed by ., or =, or : or it indicates the start of a collating sequence.
