installing phpMyAdmin

Okay I installed phpMyAdmin without a problem.

Then I went into config.inc.php and added a user and a password.

But now when I try to log in I get the following error:

phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the
 connection. You should check the host, username and password in config.inc.php and make sure that they correspond to the 
information given by the administrator of the MySQL server.

What do I need to do to get phpMyAdmin to work with a username and password?

ensure you are using a valid mysql username & password.

I put "sean" as the username and phpMyAdmin as the passwrd.

But when I goto myhost/phpmyadmin I get the above mentioned error message

I removed the password and username but I can't create a database

I tried the following php code to create a database:

but my screen says:" Couldn't create database"

So I can log into phpMyAdmin but I can't do anything.

If you login with no credentials, you cannot create a db because you have no privileges. As for your username & password - is the username & password you are using actually added to mysql as a user? Or are you just choosing whatever you want as the username & password? The details you put in have to be authentic mysql user details or you will get access denied errors.

So how do I create authentic mysql user details?

Also, I took out the username and password, leaving the fields blank in the config.inc.php file, and I can manually enter a table through phpMyAdmin, but when I try to run the PHP script mentioned above I get the error message "Couldn't create database"

So how can I set up PHPMyAdmin to process php files from the same server?

Yes. Ask the server administrator to create a mysql account for you. They will give you the username & password. Use these credntials to connect to your db's every time.
