include file problem

how can i access the .inc file in other folder besides with the same folder with the php file?
i had written a php file and 'call' an include file. it can be done if they both in the same folder but fail in different location.
WHY???!!!

the server show ths warning:-

Warning: Failed opening 'name.inc' for inclusion (include_path='')

i'm using apache, php4 and mysql on windows 2000 prof.

You need to move through the paths using (../) to go back a directory (../../) to go back 2 directories and so forth and use the dir names to move forward.

So if your inc file is in the directory above the current one you need (../name.inc) or for a directory adjacent to the current one (../newdir/name.inc).

or check that open_basedir != 1 in php.ini

yes, i did try the ../ one, and it was successful ! merci beaucoup!
but do not really familiar with the 'open dir', can explain more?

another question, how to 'set' my database or php to send an email to the users on the certain time? such as similar function in sending e-cards on certain date, how they make it?? sorry but i totally dun have any clues on it 🙁
