Please help me!!! Access denied for user...

Hi,

I've installed phpdev and when I try to set up a MySQL connection with Dreamweaver MX I always get the following error message: 1044 Access denied for user: 'thoughtfulthor@localhost' to database 'mydatabase'

Do I get this because it's the wrong username and/or password? If so, how can I change it? Any other thoughts?

Access denied means exactly that. It means your username or password is invalid. Are you using an actual MySQL username & password, or have you just made one up? You need to ensure your mysql server is configured with the username & password you wish to use.

Thank you very much for your quick response. Yes, I did set up a username and password on my server but for some reason it's still not working :-( Any ideas?

It can only be either the username or password is wrong, or the privileges either against that username or against the database are incorrect. Check all privileges - reset all privileges and rest the password then restart mysql.

thanks for you effort to help me but unfortunately, I've already reset the databasename, username and password a couple of times and it's still not working. I always get the 1045 error in Dreamweaver MX. I did manage to set up a guestbook (Advanced Guestbook) which requires PHP and MySQL, so my privileges (database name, username, password) must be correct. Are there any other steps I could take? Or do I have to reset anything else?
