Need help with text parsing

I have tried to search php.net and the forums but I can't seem to find what I am looking for.
I am sure this is incredibly simple, yet I can't grasp how to do it.

Basically I am performing an nslookup as such:

$nslookup = nslookup -query=a $server $value;

The results of $nslookup print as this:

Server: ISBDNS.server.com Address: 205.145.66.189 Name: yahoo.com Address: 66.218.71.198

What I need is to seperate each part of the results on a new line, so it appears as this:

Server: ISBDNS.server.com
Address: 205.145.66.189
Name: yahoo.com
Address: 66.218.71.198

I can't seem to figure out how to split the items.
I have looked at preg_split but am unable to find a way to make this work.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

If I were you...

I'd strpos() or strstr() to find the locations of Server:, Address:, etc. etc.

Then, I'd strpos() again for a space ( " " ) and substr() with a start at whereever you found Server: and with a length of the space strpos() - the strpos() of where you found Server: or whatever.

It looks like you could also explode() by a space ( " " ) and say that the evens are these ( Server:, Address:, etc. ) and they odd keys are the values for them ( ISBDNS.server.com, 205.145... )

Using explode I do the following

foreach ($dns_servers as $value) {
$nslookup = `nslookup -query=a $server $value`;

$test = explode(" ", $nslookup);
echo "<P>DNS Server: ";
echo "<P>$test[2]";
echo "<P>$test[4]";
echo "<P>$test[6]";
echo "<P>$test[8]";
echo "<P>$test[10]";
}

This dumps the following.
It evidentally doesn't see some spaces as 'space'

Server:

ISBDNS.server.com Address:

193.145.66.189 Name:

server1.server.com Address:

193.145.105.243

As you can see, it doesn't dump Address: , Name: , Address: into it's own array value.

Anyone have any ideas. I can't seem to get it to recognize as a space...

Try this:

$result = preg_split ('/\\s+/', $nslookup);

if the response is regular you could do something like

$str= str_replace("Address:","\r\nAddress:",$str);
$str = str_replace("Name:","\r\nName:",$str);

and so on, where \r\n is a new line (or if your doing html you could replace \r\n with <br>).

For those interested, i did this to fix the problem.

foreach ($dns_servers as $value) { 
    $nslookup = `nslookup -query=a $server $value`; 
    $lines = preg_split("[\n]",$nslookup); 
    echo implode('<BR>',$lines);

}

This works perfectly
