Dynamic table layout..?

Ok, I made a post on here asking for help with my classified ads system... I fixed that problem. However, my question now is how to make dynamic tables lay out better...

As you can see, it uses LOTS of table layouts... but the problem is this : my boss doesn't want that white space underneath the tables that are shorter than the one in the next column. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas??

Couple things to make your life and our lives easier. First, post the code you are using inside of the [ php ] tags. That way we can actually see what you are doing. Also, when you are debugging, make sure you use \n and \t to produce legible outputted HTML. I cannot tell anything about your page without applying source formatting.

By white space at the bottom, do you mean he doesn't want there to be space on the right column, if the left column has more entries (ie: there are an odd number of items)?!? That's BS. Tell him to show you how to do it in word, or STFU. You could apply valign=middle, but that would look worse IMO.

Can you also be more specific about what you are trying to accomplish? Reduce nested tables, more attractive layout? what?

I used DW to format the code so I could read it, and you have bizarre table structuring stuff going on.

You have structures like:

<table>
     <tr>
          <td>
               <tr> 

as well as unclosed <td> an <tr>

Also, when you are creating your lists for the 2 columns, you are putting them in <tr><td></td></tr> for each of them. That is valid HTML, but needless waste. If you just have one <tr> with 2 <td>, you will accomplish the same thing:

<table>
     <tr>
          <td colspan=2>header</td>
     <tr>
          <td>first column</td>
          <td>second column</td>
     </tr>
</table>
