[Resolved] very strange problem with insert command

am working php+mySql
i am trying to do a simple insert command :
$query2="INSERT INTO tblPrint (OrderNum,PrinterNum,DateTimeVal) Values('$order_num','$radio','$tmpDateTimeVal')";

when i havethis values :
$order_num=313.517;
$radio=1;
$tmpDateTimeVal=date("Y-m-d H:i:s");

when i check the mysql i see that the order_num value
is for some reason 3.517 ?!?!?!?!?!
why is that?any idea????
the more intresting if i do the same line with the same values it tels me its a duplicate key!!!!!!
but if i chek it from php with a select it tells m that that vakue dosent exist!!!!!!!!
help dont know what else to do!

how have u defined the table tblPrint as ??

hallo,

check what type of table field you are using, i think you have to use a varchar type.

try changing it to varchar(16) and debug the query by echoing $query2 and see what it prints out

but why 16 and not 8?
i need only 8 chars?
i have isoltaed the problem at work (i am at home now)
and when i changed : '$order_num'
to '317.55'
it worked!!!why?

i see ite you treat this value as an integer:
it have to :

$order_num="313.517";

its a string not a number

i anyway put it in '' ('313.54')

Values without slahes are recognized by php as interger (number)

$order_num=''.$order_num; //conver to string
and it didnt help!!!!

by the way
when i define a table should i define it as "Automatic"??
