How can i change the format of the date in a datefield on MySQL?

I have a field format (yyyy-mm-dd) and i want to save the data in the format (dd-mm-yyyy), how can i do that ??

what command on mysql can change the format of a field date type ??

the DATE field in mySQL is of the format yyyy-mm-dd.
if you dont want to store it in this format then store it in a VARCHAR and use the Date() function in PHP to get it to the format you want. ie
$new_format = Date("d-m-Y");

you can't change how mysql stores the date field, but you can make changes to it in php after retrieving it.
look up strtotime, strftime, and date.

What I've learned to do is just create an int field and use strftime to format it later. Makes date calculations a little easier.
