Visual Basic app running on the server.

I have a webserver at home running a VB app I developed to perform some home automation things.
I want to be able to control some of the functions without writing a new program. Can I use php to send messages to the VB app?

I would much rather have a web interface on the server than have to write a winsock app to carry around.

any ideas/suggestions on how to best address this are welcome

how does your app run? in a webserver? command line? via a socket?

i'm not sure if php can use COM or OLE, but it can communicate via a local socket, command line, rpc or calling urls.

I think I figured an easy way.

I'll just run a timer and poll a database every X seconds in the app to look for a change and execute the already written procedures then.

the php will merely have to change the data in the table.

seems easy enough and it should work!
