just a little personal recommendation: one that i have been happy with for 5 years now and works with all windoze versions 95 and up (at least those i tried it on):

surf in peace: http://www.iconlabs.net/sip.html

small, does what is supposed to do - block popups - and by putting it in your startup folder itll work most effectively.
no adware, spyware,... and its freeware.

    I just use Mozilla.

Moving this to the Echo Lounge, where one of the moderators there might want to merge it with the existing popup thread.

I would reccomend the Google Bar

Very useful and has an effective pop up blocker!

The best pop up blocked i've used is actually part of an application that 'enhances' Internet Explorer by allowing a tabular feature (like Opera). (IE support only).

The program is called "Avant Browser". Its freeware and doesn't have adware stuff. URL: http://www.avantbrowser.com

teh big advantage of surf in peace compared to all other programs ive tried so far is its popup filter. i do not want to block ALL popups - just the annoying ones - once added to the black list (takes 5 seconds) - the popup will get killed every time it tries to open. also SIP needs hardly any resources - thanks for your suggestions though - i will check out what i havent tried yet.
