Help with Storing Congifuration File in a DB Text Field

I am trying to evaluate variables in a configuration file which is stored in a MySQL DB field.

I have the following file stored as text in a database field:

//Global Configuration
$m_moduleDir='events/';
$m_moduleBase=$g_l_modules.$m_moduleDir;
$m_dataDir=$g_l_dataRoot.$m_moduleDir;
$m_dataServerRoot=$siteMan['serverDataRoot'];
$m_domain=$siteMan['Domain'];
$m_modDesc='SiteManager - Events Calendar Module';
$m_modTitle='Events';
$m_filePrefix='e';
$m_basehref=$g_basehref.$m_moduleBase;
$m_def_rowcolor="#ffffff";
$m_alt_rowcolor="#ECECF9";

I am trying to retrieve this text and process it as PHP so that the varialbes listed are assigned.

I have been trying the following with no success:

eval($row['Config']);

where $row['Config'] results from the query that retrieves the text from the db.

Is what I am trying to do possible?

You may need to addslashes. Take a look at the example in the manual, and you'll all quotes, double quotes, dollars signs, etc terminated with slashes.

I found the problem which was that I was setting the wrong varialbes. Duh... ;-)

Just a thought, thats kinda an ugly way of storing config vars... but then again, I don't know exactly what you're doing with it, so itmight be entirely good and logical in your situation...

Regardless, if it were my config stuff... I'd make a table for it like this:

CONFIG
ID, key, value

1, m_moduleDir, events/
2, m_moduleBase, ...
3, m_def_rowcolor, #ffffff
4, m_alt_rowcolor, #ECECF9

I've found in the past that a table full of variables like that are often easier to manage and manipulate than just a big ugly text string stored in a TEXT field. Just a thought...
