Does md5 change from verision to another or from server to another

i save a password that encrypted using md5 in database

then i copy the database data to another server

when i try to login i can't the password wrong

i encrypt my login password again in the new server and compare it with the old one and i fnd that they are not equal....

can anyone explain this problem

and how can i fix it

think of that when i have a lot of user and i try to change the server how can i do it all the password will be changed!!!!

MD5 is a fixed hashing algorithm (http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1321.txt) that does not depend on any environmental factors, only on the data being hashed; the idea behind the algorithm is that it aids in ensuring that data transmitted between two machines hasn't been corrupted or altered, so it is necessary that the algorithm produce exactly the same hash for exactly the same data no matter which machine was doing the hashing.

There have been rumours (and some evidence) that MySQL's implementation of MD5 and returns/returned the wrong hash (at least in some versions). A different version of MySQL might hash differently. (Note, this does not apply to PHP's own md5() function, which hasn't shown any inconsistent behaviour to my knowledge).

The other alternative is that something about your new configuration is altering the passwords before they're hashed. If you can possibly do so, compare the two and see what if anything has changed. That of course is assuming that nothing about the scripts themselves have changed.

but i didn't use MySQL MD5

i just use md5 that come with PHP maybe the verision of PHP is the reason
