Ticks

hi.

i have played several online games coded in php, and sveral of y freinds are coding their own, as am i. i have the attack scripts etc ready, but i cannot get my head around ticks. i need a tick to calculate how much money everyone in the game gets every tick etc. so if everyone gets 500 money then everyone gets it every 10 minutes (i intwnd to have 10 minute ticks) in my php book it gives no reference to ticks. how do i add them to my game and make a new ship take 9 ticks to build etc.

i think you would make a script that does all the tick increment changes (ie calculates the users stats for the next tick) and then actually increments the tick.

you'd then use a cron job to run this script every ten minutes... but i'm not a unix spod, so you'll have to do your own reading about that 🙂
