Expert mail functions?

Hi,

I'm using the mail function to enable a user to send mail from my website. I would like to change this function so that the user can enter a smtp server through which the email will be sent.

Is that at all possible in PHP?

This might be a difficult subject to cover here but if you could just give me some pointers I would appreciate it very much. Please, keep in mind that I'm not familliar with all the ins and outs of the SMTP mail protocol (yet?)

Sure, once they fill it in, you can use ini_set to change it at runtime.

I guess it would have to be something like this:

ini_set('SMTP', $value);
