shopping cart...

hi guys...

i'm just beginning to learn php with my final goal being able to code a fully functional online shop.

i really could use some help to start off with...

i have no problem with the basic shopping cart and working with a mysql database, but i have no idea how to handle login scripts, shipping methods and payments ! (currently i'm looking at payments only being direct deposits or COD). also security is a big concern !

i've seen some really good open source projects, like http://www.oscommerce.com and so on, but i'd really like to develop my own as i'm learning.

is there is anybody out there that would like to assist me ? 😃

who knows, maybe later when can start our own company...

sorry to sound like a drag. But shopping carts should be avoided if you do not know fairly easy tasks such as User Authentication and how to handle security.

Im not saying you cant do it for a learning experience for all means go ahead if its just a learning experience, but dont try and make any money off it because there is big competition such as Oscommerce and its FREE

A shopping cart component, a login component, a money xfer component...these are all separate things, don't try to integrate them as one because you'll end up falling over yourself. Try writing them modularly so they can be simply plugged together as needed.

If your the 5,000,000,000th person to write a shopping cart I think you win a cookie 🙂
