xitami php alias

Hi,
I've installed PHP with Xitami and created a test file, test.php, with only <?php phpinfo();?> in it. This works&displays fine if test.php is in Xitami\webpages but I get a 404 error-page not found- if I put test.php in an alias directory. Regular html files work fine from the alias directory. Any thoughts what's causing the error?
