Well, I posted too soon. I figured out my problem. I did notice that there is not a ton of info on converting line breaks in the forum, so to avoid being that guy who asks a question and then takes the trouble to come back to the forum to say he figured it out, but neglects to describe how he fixed the problem, I shall explain the solution to mine.
If you need to convert line breaks in a text area from /n (aka carriage returns from the enter key) charaters to <br> characters, you only need to do this one time and its on the display part of your script. You don't have to to a preg_replace when inputting the text, only when you display the text. After your query just apply this to the particular variable in the array.
$result[0][16] = preg_replace('/\n/', '<br>', $result[0][16]);
I know this is very simple and many out there wil say, "duh", but I figured I'd elaberate.
