Help in Storing Data

Hi, I would like to thank anyone who can help in advance.
I am setting up a tuition agency and I would need to do the following:
1. Store user id,password,personal particulars etc of tutors who registers at my website
2. Store user id,password,contact etc of parents looking for tutors etc.
3. Allow the parents to view selected data of tutors in the database
4. Allow tutors to view selected data of parents looking for tutor
5. Allow both to amend their records upon login.
6. Information exchange of contact would only occur by email after the administrator has approved the transaction.
7. To make a form like interface
8. 1 example is www.tutorcity.com
9. To be able to search in the database corresponding to a list of criterias and then display it
10. Any readily available scripts? Like those readily available package of forum scripts? Dont mind paying for it but I still would like to learn how to do it myself.

Any1 care to share or enlighten me?

Thanks alot. Any books to recommend for reading up? I am still less than a beginner... Really hope to master this thing.

Do you have access to MySQL? If so, then let me know and I'll post the necessary code for a MySQL database. If you can post exactly what you want, I can try to put together a complete script.
Sorry but I don't know of any books that would be helpful. I'm looking for some good books myself as I am fairly new to php.

How do I know if I have access to MySQL?
If I do not have, how do I get it then?
Really thanks alot for helping out.
What I want is the following:
1. A registration, login (user id/password) script
2. A form-based search function that search thru the above database that contains the users' particulars with selected criteria using tickboxes/listboxes

It is actually something to do with the tuition agency that I have come up with. Allow tutors to seek students and parents who are looking for tutors to register and then exchange information via my website. The information exchange between the 2 would only occur once both agree for the match together with the administator approval. Hope it is not too hard. I have really no idea how to get it started. I only know how to play around with DMX to create html websites. New scripts like php etc are out of my knowledge.

You will need to ask your hosting company if MySQL is included in your hosting plan. MySQL is the only database that I know how to use and (in my opinion) it is the one that most PHP programmers use. Let me know what you find out,

PostgreSQL is highly used also among Linux users. MSSQL is big among Windows users. And most businesses use Oracle.

You mentioned that you are interested in books.

Personally, I've done very well with the O'Reilly series. I have a few of them, I think probably for your purposes, you might want to look at "Web Database Applications with PHP & MySQL." This has a good overview and examples of all the PHP and MySQL that you would probably use for what you're describing. Of course, there are a lot of other good books, I'm sure.
