Although it doesn't take that many people to have a really good community, just a reasonable number that participate. what we need at phpbuilder is for all the posts to be e-mailed to the subscribers.... so instead of just replies to your message you get all the posts. Unless this can already be done, I just didn't see any setting in my (new) account.
Another thing would be to enable users to reply to threads via e-mail. I have been subscribed to forums like that, and all you have to do is to reply in your own e-mail client, and it gets posted as a reply... it increases the posts dramatically. I guess it is just ease of use... Once signed up here, if I don't see any e-mails or anything else, I might not come back here for a week... whereas if I get a constant barrage of e-mails (to a tertiary account) I can look and see what interests me without having to go to the site and wade through the forums.
