restoring DB from the server?

How do you restore the db from the server eg from xxxxxxxx.com/backup.gz

I know it can be done, but not sure how can someone plz help?

And what are the contents of backup.gz? SQL files? The mysql data directory?

its the zip of the .sql which is about 50mbs big so hence why im trying to get it up from the server as it will cause upload errors with PHPMYADMIN

How was the sql file generated? mysqldump?

yep its a phpmyadmin export/dump

AFAIK, MyAdmin adds extra crap in the file (shameless credits and whatnot), so a regular mysql load won't work. My suggestion would be to stop using that to export, and instead use regular ole mysqldump

how do I use regular mysql export?
even the export I do from invisinoboard doesnt work either, its just far too damn big.
Is there no way I can restore even a .sql filethat is on my server?
