getting value from URL

hi there i wanna try something like the face-pic.com how they parse the value from the URL

the test should be the username so how can i get the value of username while there is no assigned variable on it.. do i haev to configure my apache for this matter or this can just be done on my code?

test can be different coz this identify the username of each users from the members.

Which test part? The www.test.com part or the /test part?

Try using $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] to get the URL.

so from $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] just get the value of your URL and the next value is the username..

That will return the /test part of the URL.

ok i have tried this code

but the problem is that it just says

Not Found
The requested URL /test was not found on this server.

so does that means the test should be on the server?

what should i do?

here's the sample again

www.test.com/test

www.test.com represent the url
test represent the username from the members

from www.test.com this will call the index.php and from my index.com i have the $currentUrl = $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']; and if the $currentUrl is not blank it should display the info of the user and if it is blank this will just display the intro of the website
