Scan Filesystem With Virtual Folder Support

Does anyone know of a good way of doing this? Scanning the filesystem with virtual folder support. Basicly I want to scan ever dir that is in the document root dir AND also the folders that are virtual (like Apache's alias directive). I've thought of a few ideas but havn't thought all the way threw to figure out if they will work or not. Just thought someone here might have done this. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks!

Ok, no replies yet. I know no one is going to think to hard about this because you don't have to do it but... My thought is comparing the $SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'] and $SERVER['SCRIPT_FILENAME'] somehow to detect when the next parent folder goes back to the directory root somewhere. Anyone think this is possible? At this point I'm thinking it's almost imposible. lol
