Hi there!

Maybe a stupid question, but I really don't know how to do the following, though I figure it has to be pretty simple...

Imagine that I've got the following ID values:

60
61
63
3
4
5
61
63
5
6

How do I wipe out one of the values that appear twice?

I assume you mean you're wiping them from a database. You'll probably want to do a query to select which ones have more than one entry(use HAVING). Then loop though the results and update/delete/massage the ones that need it.

...a vague question if ever there was one.

Do you want to delete the duplicate records from the database for ever?

Do you want to simply select the unique IDs from the database?

Do you want to prevent duplicate ID's from appearing in the first place?

-it's impossible to offer a good response without knowing more about what it is you're trying to do.

Well, I want to delete duplicate ID's after I've retreived them from the database, using php. Hope that helps to clear things up 🙂. Meanwhile I'll have a look at array_unique. 🙂

Why not just select only distinct IDs in the first place, then?

Well, because their not exactly ID's...

Their actually ID's from another table stored as values. So what I've got is this:

ID UID Newid1 Newid2 Newid3 Newid4 Newid5 etc.
1 2 61 62 63 1 2
2 2 62 63 64 2 3

So what I'm trying to do is getting al the Newid's with the same userid (UID), without having duplicate ones.

I think I've got something it's pretty simple:

while($result3 = mysql_fetch_array($query3)){
$i = $i+1;
$id = $result3["ID"];
$idarray[$i] = $id;
$idarray = array_unique($idarray);

if($idarray[$i] != ""){
echo(" B: $i -- ID: $idarray[$i]<br> ");
}
}

After querying for the Newid's I put everything in a while loop, convert the results to an array, sort the duplicates out using array_unique as suggested above and echo it all but the empty arrays. Works fine!

On a general note; if you find yourself going "field1 field2 fiel3d etc." then it's time you considered normalising your database a bit and putting them in another table.

table Newids:
other_tables_ID other_tables_UID NewID
1 2 61
1 2 62
1 2 63
1 2 1
1 2 2
2 2 62
2 2 63
2 2 64
2 2 2
2 2 3
...
