Which Column Type - BLOB or TEXT?

In storing simple written text for a newsletter article should I use the "BLOB" or the "TEXT" column data storage type.

I have been using "BLOB". I'm sure that this is not a very good reason but the reason I have been using the BLOB data type is because the column looks neater in the phpMyAdmin program.

The newsletter articles may contain anywhere from just a few hundred characters up to several thousand characters.

From looking at the MySQL Manual on the mysql.com web site I cannot get a clear picture of which data type that I ought to use.

I think you should stick to the TEXT type, BLOB is optimised for binary data like pictures etc.

Anyway since you regulary large text your right, TEXT is the type you are looking for.

Since I'm using the column for text it does make sense that the column type should be TEXT.

That's enough for me. I'm going to change the column type right away.
