few questions about mail handing in php

first off, what is the best way to send out e-mail with php? I was thinking about the mail function, but didn't know if there were any other better/more efficent ways.

question about the mail function though. how does it know which mail server to send the mail out from and what e-mail address to send the mail from?

guess i'm just looking for some incite about e-mailing with php

hehe true, didn't think about that one, sorry. no, i'm not a spammer, i'm creating this for my company to send out e-mails internally and to other clients..but yeah, sorry

In that case....yeah, the mail functions what you want. The address to send from is set in sendmail or whatever mail server you're pointing it to(for nix), and for windows is set in php.ini. You can also specify the From in the headers of the mail function

And it will know which mail server to use because you will specify that in php.ini
