need help with error msg Error 1044

i'm working with php code and uploading my pages on to my server and i keep getting this message.

Error: 1044: Access denied for user 'xxxx@localhost' to database 'yyyy'

x - is the name i use to log into my database
y - is my database name

how can it be fixed so that my page will be able to work without getting this message
can anyone help??
