I get this "stream does not support seeking " please help!

when i use absolute including,
for example: <? include "http://mydomain.org/menu.php" ?>
the error appears

Warning: main(): stream does not support seeking in
/home/virtual/site13/fst/var/www/html/index.php on line 11

when i use relative
including like
<? include "../menu.php" ?> the error does NOT appears

I need to use the absolute including not only from this server but also from others,
i mean, that i want to include this menu.php file absolute and in other sites on other hosts

how to do that without ANY problems?

The PHP manual has this to say:

If "URL fopen wrappers" are enabled in PHP (which they are in the default configuration), you can specify the file to be included using an URL (via HTTP or other supported wrapper - see Appendix I for a list of protocols) instead of a local pathname. If the target server interprets the target file as PHP code, variables may be passed to the included file using an URL request string as used with HTTP GET. This is not strictly speaking the same thing as including the file and having it inherit the parent file's variable scope; the script is actually being run on the remote server and the result is then being included into the local script.

So the first catch is fopen needs to be enabled - which it sounds like it is.

Second trick is if the server your hitting up for the file processes PHP files, it will parse the file and then provide you the output of the processing. This is probably not what you're expecting (I'm guessing you wish to make use of the code in the file).

yea, the target sever allows php executing

but the file (menu.php) has only HTML content inside
and i want to include this html in the another page.....

Actually, file() might be a bit easier. Either way, this approach would be having PHP open the file as if it was a file to be read as data. Check out http://www.php.net/file or http://www.php.net/fopen for details. I'm not sure if those will help. If anything, they will probably provide a more useful error message if there's problems...

well i'm not familiar with php but i tried the following

$handle = fopen("http://mydomain.org/menu.php", "r");
?>

but it doesn't work

please let me know what to use exactly

i want to include the file, menu.php, which contains just html code with little java and pics
and i want to include them as they are

Is menu.php in your domain or is it from some other site? You do know you can include files instead of URLs?

it's on another site, i know that i can include files, but in that case i need to include url

If the page is still being included now - just with the error message included, suppress it with @.

I'm gonna guess you've got Zend's optimiser installed. Try disabling that if you have. If doing that clears the problem up then submit a bug report to Zend - the problem seems to lie there.

the error is on top and below is the page included as it has to be

so i guess suppressing the error will be enough
but i didn't understand how exactly to suppress it with "@" ??

btw what is this Zend's optimiser?

Should make the error disappear.

I had the same problem it happened after my host updated php.
The @ in front of the statement works just fine. (for now)

Looking at phpinfo() will tell you if it's installed or not.
