2 x Selectrion Box Search

OK, I am almost at breaking point (give me another 1 hour and I will be rocking back and forwards on my chair, foaming at the mouth, moaning, claiming a breakdown!) 🙁

I am trying to create a simply web page that will have 2 selection boxes, say for example;
#1 - Options are Man/Woman
#2 - Options are £10/£50/£100

A visitor selects both the boxes, and the clicks on the button. The button when click will then go off and search a mySQL table and return results where the fields 'sex' and 'price' match what the user has selected.

For some reason, I am having major major problems with this. Can anyone either tell me what I need, or if you have a similar code, drop me a copy (with explanation so I can leanr from a working example)

This is a really simple idea. Why don't you post what you've already done, let us know where you're getting stick, and we should be able to help you out.

Assuming that you have some HTML with a form containing the fields sex and price (strange topic 😉)

$sql = "SELECT stuff FROM table WHERE sex = '".$_POST['sex']."' AND price = '".$_POST['price']."'";
mysql_query($sql);
etc...

I know what it looks like, but honest its not for an escort agency or anything! 😉

Its the form side that I don't understand how it ties in with PHP. I can run simple queries where the variables are fixed, ie;

$sql = "SELECT * FROM presents WHERE sex = 'Male' AND price <= 10.00 GROUP BY price"

But how do I use a form to pass these parameters? Also, say for example someone selects £50, is it also possible to only select items greater than £10 but less than £50.01 ?

Seem so easy in plain english, but complicated (for a newbie) in PHP world 😕

All you need to do is name your radio buttons like this on the form and the above sql will work

  <td><input type="radio" name="sex" value="Female">Female</td>
</tr>
<tr>
  <td>Price: </td>
  <td><input type="radio" name="price" value="10">10</td>
  <td><input type="radio" name="price" value="50">50</td>
  <td><input type="radio" name="price" value="100">100</td>
</tr>
</form>

Then on outputpage.php

if ($_POST[price] == "100") {
  $minprice = 50;
} elseif ($_POST[price] == "50") {
  $minprice = 10;
} else {
  $minprice = 0;
}

and change the query to

$sql = "SELECT stuff FROM table WHERE sex = '".$_POST['sex']."'
AND price > '$minprice' AND price <= '".$_POST['price']."'";

Maybe yours. Mine are a bunch of users in the simplest sense of the word. They like pressing the submit button without putting any data in the fields.
