[Resolved] 403 permissions error

Ok, I've been re-installing stuff on my server (Debian + Apache 1.3.x for those that are interested) and I have what seems to be a permissions problem. I have set the permissions on the folder to 755 (world-readable), but it still comes up with a 403 error.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Hey `Piersk,

I have not a real clue, but since there seems to be no replies yet.. Have you looked at the apache config? I recently set-up a network at home, and had to add a PC and folders to the config. Perhaps you need to open the HD in your apache config?

You may also want to check the group and owner of your doc_root. If you built it as root, and apache is running as nobody, it may just lock you out.

I didn't really build it. I'm running Debian so I just used apt-get

Ok, Shryku was onto summat. I logged on as root, chmoded (I had been using chown before) and hey presto, it worked!
