Yamasoft's GIF Converter

Someone from Yamasoft.com posted a script on PHP.net that's designed to create a png from a gif. The sample code he included took it from Gif->Png->Jpg. I tested it with an animated GIF, and sure enough, it made a JPG out of the first frame.

Has anyone used it, know of it, know anything about it in terms of security? I love it because... it works. I gave the scripts once over, uploaded both of them, and it worked right away without installs or recompiles or anything, but I don't want to use it if it's not secure.

what sort of security issues are you thinking of? The script doesn't handle sensitive data or anything like that does it? If you meant unauthorised use then you could restrict it using user/password combinations or if you want to stop other servers using you as a resource you could use a distinguishing variable from $_SERVER and have an IF statement which returns true when the request is from your server.

I more meant "Is the script doing something wacky to my server without my noticing it because I'm not very aware of that side of PHP progamming" 🙂
