POPup window destroys cookie

Hi,

Here is something am not able to troubleshoot it.

I have IE6 on WIN98 OS.

Regarding website:
I got two pages, login page and category listing page.

After any visitors logsin successfuly, a cookie is set to maintain
his/her login name. Now member is redirected to category page showing category listing with each category as a link.
Clicking this link opens a new popup window.
(Note : on every page in begining member login status is checked. If found not loggedin then member is redirected to login page).

Now the real issue:
When i click the link a popup window is open showing product list then i closed it. Next time again when i click link to open same or any other popupwindow, am redirected to login page. After debuging i found that first time when open popup and during close, cookie is getting destroyed.

I had tried by reparing IE , even reinstalled IE6 later, flushed all the temp files from temp internet folder but problem still exist.

Will really appreciate if anyone could try to help me out.

How are you calling [man]setcookie/man? You'll notice that the manual states that the default prototype sets the cookie for the duration of the browser's "session", that is, for as long as the browser window is open. The cookie likely can't tell that you're spawning multiple windows, and the cookie is destroyed when the popup browser is closed instead of the original one.

I'd suggest you set the cookie for a definite time, such as an hour or whatever, or else try using sessions, which tends to be a more effective means of client-tagging. Sessions are really not so difficult, and you could easily search/replace $COOKIE['foo'] with $SESSION['foo'] in all your scripts....
