Calendar start and end dates.

Hi everyone,

I hope this makes some sense, but anyways here it is. I'm doing a calendar system online. So it will show the month in a nice calendar. No problem there. In the dates that things are happening a hyperlink will show up telling the user what's going on.. No problem there either. Now the thing is an event and can go on for more than one day, say 4 days, so I stuck in an end date, that's where I'm having the problem.

I'm trying to figure out a way to pull out repeated listings of the same thing for an event that happens more than one day through SQL. So if there was an event that went from 1/20/2004 to 1/22/2004 it would show it 3 times in the query.

Something like this:

Event1, 01/20/2004, 01/20/2004, Event Information
Event2, 01/22/2004, 01/23/2004, ANother Event Information
Event2, 01/22/2004, 01/23/2004, ANother Event Information

Something like this. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate this greatly!!!!

What's your SQL query? Would a multiple-day event have more than one entry in the table?

Yes it would look like the example that I showed in the first post. My SQL statement currently looks something like this:

SELECT * FROM tblNews WHERE YEAR( fldDate ) = '2004' AND MONTH( fldDate ) = '1' ORDER BY fldDate

The table is set up this way:

fldNewsID bigint(20) UNSIGNED No auto_increment

fldDate date No 0000-00-00

fldEndDate date No 0000-00-00

fldTitle varchar(255) No

fldInformation text No

You could add a group by statement in there to group on fldNewsID, or better yet, list out your columns in your select and do a select distinct.

  SELECT DISTINCT fldNewsID,
         fldDate
         fldEndDate
         fldTitle
         fldInformation
    FROM tblNews 
   WHERE YEAR(fldDate) = '2004' 
     AND MONTH(fldDate) = '1' 
ORDER BY fldDate

I don't think I'm communicating what I was looking for correctly. I want it to do the following:

fldNewsID bigint(20) UNSIGNED No auto_increment
fldDate date No 0000-00-00
fldEndDate date No 0000-00-00
fldTitle varchar(255) No
fldInformation text No

Pretend this is the end result that I WANT.
fldNewsID fldDate fldEndDate fldTitle fldInformation
1 1/20/2004 1/20/2004 Stuff Info
2 1/22/2004 1/23/2004 New More info
2 1/22/2004 1/23/2004 New More info

That's what I'm looking for. If the end date isn't the same as the first date then I want a repeat of the record for however many times there needs to be.

Does that make sense?

Does anyone have an idea on this one? I'm hoping not to have to do some really sloppy code otherwise.....
