I am building my website (http://www.xxos.net) using php. Each page typically has a central image and text above and below. The text has ahref external links and also internal links to other pages. There is a LOCATE function (http://www.xxos.net/list.php?category=locate) which is a simple search and which is meant to locate the string searched for and display each hit on a separate line of about 50 characters (with the string in the middle). The idea is that the context gives enough clues to allow me or a visitor to go to the page of choice by clicking on a search result line.The problem is that if the string is in an ahref on the original page the search hit line no longer links back to that original page. I would appreciate some help.

i would put each search result inside a <DIV tag, and then use the onclick attribute instead of an <A

<DIV ONCLICK="window.location='index.php'">Search Result
Search keywords
blah blah
</DIV>

then you can also put <A tags inside the div.

Hi,

Use htmlspecialchars on the 50-character substring. This will convert html-active parts, such as < and > into their ascii-code. That way the <a href=""></a> will be translated to a normal texstring:

$a = htmlspecialchars("<a href=\"\"><a>");
echo $a;

the source of the output will look like:

Which does not cause your links to break anymore.
