[Resolved] cronjob with mysql not working

Hello ppl,

I made a script which is creating a backup of a databse and send it by mail, bellow I will explain how it works.

First , using the comand mysqldump I take the content of a databse and store it in a file (temporar/2004-01-12.sql) , next comand is archiving the file using gzip $file , so the file will be temporar/2004-01-12.sql.gz , next I send an email with that file as attachment to my adress [e-mail].

If I try to acces this script via browser everything IS OK, I will receive an email with my databse archived.

But if I try to use the file with cronjob it's not working, first it was the "shebang" line which I forgot to insert in the first line of my script, no I have my first line like this :

Now the file is parsed by php but there is no mysql support as I see from the emails received from cron daemon :

I wan't to remind you that the file is working well from browser !

Now I'm wondering if I must insert a shebang line for mysql too 😕 because first time I runed the cronjob and the shebang line was missing I received other errors and I didn't receive any email from the script only from cron damon, but now after I inserted the line #!/usr/local/bin/php I receive 2 emails , one from the cron daemon with the errors and one from my script which has been parsed and it sent me an email with an archive , but an empty one .. no file in the archive !!!

i dont think you need a mysql shebang line, as mysql is returning the "Access denied" message - which shows that it's working

It looks like it's not got any username, password etc for opening a link to mysql - so it's using the default ones instead (which are not giving access.

Show some code - it may be that your vars are in a seperate file or something.

i think you've taken your mysqldump command too literally

$username = "mysqluser";
$password = "mysqlpassword";
$cmd = `mysqldump -h localhost -u $mysquser -p $mysqlpassword --opt --databases useri`;

try that. oh, you may need to put the database name in there too

I changed what you said , but I still don't understand why it's working from browser and not from cron, anyway now I don't receive any erors about mysql now I receive the erors about the file which must be created by my script.

I made the cron to run every minute, to see what's happening, but if I was looking from ftp no file was created by the script from cron, so I think the errors are explainable .. because no file was there .. the big question is why the file was not created ??

When I ran the script again from browser a new archive was created , the size was 1,5 M ... so this is the size of my database archived .. so from browser everything is ok.

I changed the path to the file that must be created from temporar/file.sql to /home/user/public_html/temporar and now it's working 🙂

I'm so happy 🙂 now I will have a backup of my databse every day in my inbox 🙂
