localhost or the domain?

I'm using phpmyadmin, and currently the hostname is set to: localhost, it's working. Should I really be using an IP address or domain that is associated with the server?

As long as its for testing ur scripts leave it as it is. You only need the domain or ip when u want to show ur stuff to the rest of the world 🙂

If you are on a hosted server, use the actual server name. Localhost may work, but if they change the configuration to require the actual server name, your scripts will still work.

I agree with the logic behind this, however I disagree with the end result. In my experience, external services are much more likley to change their naming structure for their domains than change localhost.

Which ever way you end up going, it could be the other scenario anyway. I don't think this is going to be a big issue anyway.

Thank you for the responses. I actually got in touch with my host (hosting externally), and he says that localhost is fine. My scripts weren't working before because he doesn't allow anything other than localhost.
